It is still important to be aware of a press’s publishing program and particular expertise. If the press associated with your university is an established leader in your field, you should feel confident submitting your project. If, however, your university’s press has no experience publishing or promoting work in your area, you should know that your affiliation is not likely to increase your chances of being published by them.. If you are concerned that your association with a school may be a negative for your tenure/promotion committee or your colleagues in the field (even if the press has an established reputation in your discipline), it is certainly worth checking ahead of time with senior scholars in your department and members of your tenure committee; different departments may have different expectations or requirements.
